Cheer on the Fiesta Bowl ArtWalk’s four Featured Artists – Chris Heede, Kitty Hester, Elizabeth Dunlop, and Abe Haight. Chris Heede and Kitty Hester will be demonstrating how they create their masterpieces! Stop by and learn about how they do what they do!
Kitty Hester, Fiber Art
“I’m a computer geek hanging on to the threads of my sanity – by using wool to make felt,” says Kitty. “I use wool from various sheep breeds, some wool soft enough to wrap a baby up in, but strong enough to build a shelter (yurts). I love wool because the end result is almost always a surprise!”
Chris Heede, Ceramics
“What I love about my ceramic artwork, and sports, is that you never know exactly what the endgame will be – you never really know how a piece will emerge from the kiln, or how a game will end,” says Chris. “The energy of uncertainty, coupled with taking chances, makes my working in clay so much more exciting!” Chris has worked in clay for almost 40 years and is still excited to open the kiln and see what has transpired within. Chris will be bringing his potter’s wheel to the Fiesta Bowl ArtWalk and will make different types of ceramic art pieces during his demonstration.
Elizabeth Dunlop, Dichroic Glass
Elizabeth loves working with dichroic glass! “I love designing little contemporary masterpieces that sparkle and glow,” say Elizabeth. “I then mount these glass masterpieces on levels of metal such as steel, copper, and aluminum. Although the glass is the main focal point, the metals are an integral component of my dichroic glass wall sculptures.”
Abe Haight, Glass
Trained as a software engineer, Abe blends the problem solving of an engineer with traditional glass-making techniques to create unique and interesting art glass pieces. “Employing a variety of colors in my crackle glass technique allows the opportunity to create a wide diversity of designs. The fiesta colors of my art glass pieces are influenced by the colors found in the environment. I continue to grow as an artist by exploring the behavior of glass in many different aspects including heat, viscosity, and forms.”
